The mindset and motivation of players from the 1930' and 40's were I believe very different from today, with small purses, limited sponsorships and prize money only available for the top 10 or 15 places.
Some played for glory others money but the great champions Hogan, Nelson Snead were all able to stand above the pack - natural talent and a work ethic that would put most professionals to shame today played a huge part, but their mental approach was also a significant factor.
